Randy was born into a musical family and took formal lessons in piano, clarinet, guitar, cello and bass throughout his childhood, but none of them really stuck until he discovered the banjo and mandolin. This was at the beginning of the folk revival of the 60's. Randy became a member of one Toronto's first bluegrass groups, the infamous "Gangreen Boys” (Andy Hermant, Rick Fielding, Peter Ness, David Wilcox) replacing David Wilcox on mandolin. In addition to being involved in the film production community and playing at festivals and workshops in Southern California, he now teaches banjo, mandolin and guitar through his “music lessons online” web based instruction site www.musiclessonsource.com.
